A Literary & Visual Arts Quarterly
Issue No. 01 — Care
Creating as an Act of Self-Care
April 2026 · 17 Contributors · 9 Mediums
Enjoying this issue? The Work of Art is free to read and free to submit — and we're building toward paying every contributor an honorarium. Starting with Issue 2, accepted artists receive a share of a $500 honorarium pool.
Your donation helps make that possible. Bee the Change Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward publication costs and artist honoraria.
Support the Publication →Care shows up differently in everyone's practice. It can be the quiet act of picking up a brush after a hard week, the discipline of returning to the page, or the vulnerability of sharing something you made. This first issue of The Work of Art brings together 17 artists and writers from across the country who responded to that theme — each in their own form, their own voice, their own understanding of what it means to create with intention.
What follows is not a single definition of care, but a collection of perspectives. We hope something here stays with you.
